Name and/or Description matching 'POSKY CRJ'Ĭategory: Flight Simulator 2004 - Aircraft Repaints, Textures and Modifications This is a big deal, as not all regional jets have them.Login | Register | About logging in and out The CRJ-550s do have hospital-grade HEPA air filtration systems that all of United’s mainline planes have. This includes in the airport before departure and after arrival. All passengers over the age of two are required to wear masks, except when eating and drinking. Since COVID, United has implemented its “CleanPlus” program to keep travelers safe while flying. Any food that is still being served will typically be pre-packaged. Keep in mind that during the COVID pandemic, service has been reduced.
And for flights that are more than 2 hours and 20 minutes you’ll have a full meal service, usually with a choice of two entrees. For slightly longer flights, you’ll get a choice or snacks, fruits, or (for morning flights) muffins. For flights under an hour, you’ll get a “premium snack” like biscotti or pretzels. If you’re sitting in First Class, alcoholic drinks are complimentary. Also available for purchase on flights over an hour and a half are premium snacks and snack boxes and, for flights over 3 hours, freshly prepared meals from United’s “Choice Menu Bistro.”
For economy travelers, that means a small snack plus free non-alcoholic drinks, with alcoholic drinks available for purchase. Since 2015, United has been offering “mainline” food and beverage service on its regional jets. There are no power ports on the CRJ-550s, although United plans to add them in the future. All in-flight entertainment on United is free.
The CRJ-550s also feature United “Personal Device Entertainment.” You can stream movies, TV shows, audio books, music, podcasts, and other content to your own laptop, tablet, or phone. You certainly won’t be able to stream video, but on a good day it will be sufficient for simple web-browsing and email. The CRJ-550s have WiFi provided by Gogo, which is good, but its the slow air-to-ground kind. On United’s CRJ-550, however, they have a luggage rack in the cabin - the kind you would see on a rental car shuttle - so you can store your bag and not have to go through the whole gate check process. Because of their small overhead bins, most of the time travelers have to gate check their roller bag and wait to collect it in the jetway upon landing. One of the big downsides of other regional jets is that they often can’t carry your carry-on. In addition, there is a unique walk up bar / refreshment center in front of the first class cabin where travelers can walk up and grab a drink or a snack whenever they want - pretty unheard of for a regional jet. Solo travelers love the single seats that are both aisles and windows and give you more privacy. Seats are laid out in a 1×2 configuration. The first class seats are 20 inches wide with a whopping 42 inches of pitch! They have more legroom than any other plane in United’s domestic fleet, except for the widebodies with lie-flat beds. The first class cabin is where things get especially unusual, in a good way. If you are flying on a “Basic Economy” ticket, however, you will not be able to purchase an Economy Plus seat. If you’re a silver member, they are free if available at time of check-in.
The Economy Plus seats can be reserved after your purchase for an extra fee or for free if you are a MileagePlus Gold member or higher. The seats are otherwise fairly standard: 17 inches wide, with 30 inches of pitch.Īnother 20 seats are dubbed “Economy Plus.” They are also 17 inches wide in a 2×2 configuration, but they have between 4 and 6 extra inches of legroom. The plane features 20 economy class seats in a 2×2 configuration - so there are no middle seats. Regardless of the true motivation, the CRJ-550 is a win for passengers. Rumor has it, the motivation behind this configuration is to circumvent a scope clause in United’s agreement with their pilots which limits how many jets they can fly with more than 50 seats. Ostensibly to make the planes feel more like a mainline aircraft, United has put only 50 seats into an aircraft big enough to hold 70. Regional jets like the CRJ-550 are smaller than typical jets and usually less comfortable. A plane that OneMileAtATime calls “ quirky,” and ThePointsGuy calls “ possibly the most comfortable regional jet in the US.” In most cases it’s hard to find much to say in reviewing a regional jet, but not United’s new Bombardier CRJ-550s.
